At Firefly Education, we’re proud to be able to contribute to our local community at a time of year that can be challenging. This is made possible thanks to our relationship with Maroochydore State School’s Jacqui Pool – one of our longest-standing professional partnerships.
Jacqui is a dedicated and passionate teacher who works tirelessly to support students and families in her school community. More than 20 years ago, Firefly leaders Ann Smales and Lee Lemon met Jacqui when she attended a Sound Waves conference. Their mutual belief in the value of systematic synthetic phonics sparked a meaningful and enduring relationship. Since then, Jacqui has provided a valuable role sharing her classroom insights and trialling resources with her students.
Working closely with Jacqui, we have been able to provide assistance for local families doing it tough, helping children enjoy the festive season with a little less worry. Jacqui’s role in this reminds us of the remarkable impact teachers have — not only in their classrooms, but far beyond.
With donations from many Fireflies, we helped Jacqui raise a total of $1,200 in Coles/Myer vouchers. This gives 12 families a $100 boost over the Christmas period, providing real help where it’s needed most.
Jacqui has expressed her heartfelt thanks to each Firefly who kindly donated once again, making this annual gesture possible. We’re equally grateful for her unwavering dedication — Jacqui is a shining example of the profound role teachers play in strengthening their local communities.
