Pair Focus Words with dictionary skills

Sound Waves Literacy 1/1/21

“students-in-classroom“

This activity is ideal for upper years students where the Focus Words (or Extension Words) contain words that some students may not be familiar with.

Allocate a Focus Word or Extension Word to each student and instruct them to ‘become an expert’ in that word. Have each student make a small chart containing their word and its dictionary meaning, then have them present to the class as part of your Monday lesson which introduces the focus phoneme and graphemes. Display the cards on the wall to refer to throughout the week.
