Plan ahead for handwriting assessment

Writing Time 4/3/21

Writing Time Student Practice Books include written assessment tasks that are completed throughout the year. However, to fully assess a student’s handwriting ability, you also need to observe their handwriting technique.

Use the Observational Class Checklist at the start of the year to record if each student is:

  • using correct posture
  • using correct pencil grip
  • forming letters correctly.

Throughout the year, continue to informally observe and correct handwriting technique, then revisit the Observational Class Checklist towards the end of the year to compare results.

The Observational Class Checklist and other assessment resources and guides are available from Writing Time Online. Simply log in to Writing Time Online and navigate to the assessment section in the side menu.
