When to use a rubric

Note: iMaths is in its final year and will be discontinued at the end of 2024. If you’re looking for a primary maths resource written for the Australian Curriculum Version 9.0, explore Maths Trek.

iMaths Rubrics are a useful teaching and learning tool, so when is the ideal time to use them with your class?

Before starting an Investigation: Discuss the rubric’s criteria (in the Ability to… column) and show students which step of the Investigation each criteria describes.

During an Investigation: Revisit the rubric at each step of the Investigation so students have a clear understanding of what is expected of them as they undertake the different tasks.

At the completion of an Investigation: Discuss the rubric with your class as part of the Communicating and reflecting process. Once you’ve assigned an overall grade, use the rubrics to provide feedback on how students can improve their performance.

Log in to iMaths Online to download the rubric for each Investigation.
