Sound Waves 2/1/20

“students-in-classroom“

Please note: A new and improved Sound Waves Years 3–6 program is on its way for use in 2027! Information in our professional learning articles may differ in the updated edition.

Try this fun version of the traditional spelling bee that Sound Waves students will love:

  • Students stand in a circle.
  • The teacher says a Fous Word from the current unit being studied, and nominates a student to begin spelling the word.
  • Going clockwise around the circle, students spell the word one letter a time.
  • The student next in line after the last letter has been called says bananas. The next student is out and sits down. If a student says an incorrect letter, they also sit it out.
  • Continue spelling further Focus Words until one student, the winner, remains standing.
