Student book activities consolidate the explicit teaching of phonemes, graphemes and Focus Concepts*.
Activities include:
- identifying focus phonemes in words
- segmenting words into phonemes and identifying graphemes
- reading, writing and spelling words
- working with spelling, vocabulary and morphology concepts.
Year 1–2 books contains an introductory unit which establishes the basic concepts needed to begin working with the program, along with 35 units covering the 43 phonemes of Australian English and their most common graphemes. In the back of these books are Helpful Hints to aid students in making correct spelling choices, as well as a list of Extension Words for every unit.
* Features differ across year levels to reflect the learning needs of students. The Foundation Book has a different unit structure and includes Special Words and sentence writing as Focus Concepts.

The Words and Sounds Book is designed to help early years students learn alphabetical order and phoneme–grapheme relationships.
The book is divided into two sections: Word Lists (frequently used words arranged in alphabetical order) and Phonemes & Graphemes (to record and reference phoneme–grapheme relationships).
